The Local Area

From Holden Farm there are a multitude of  activities and great pubs just a short drive away. Our local area is very spoiling, to help you with your stay we have handpicked a few of our favourites.

On our doorstep

The farm is located just outside the village of Cheriton.  It is a beautiful English thatched village, at the source of the River Itchen.  It is perfect for smaller children who are content with playing pooh sticks and feeding the ducks on the village green.  There is also a children’s play area in the village.

The Village Shop is open from 7am till 6pm (Sundays 8am-12pm) for your camping essentials. You can pre-order delicious local fare and food staples for your weekend (Just call 01962 771 251 to discuss your requirements). Please use the Shop order form to guarantee your order before arrival.

The village pub, The Flower Pots, is an award-winning pub and home to a fabulous microbrewery; offering a wide selection behind the bar and a very simple bar menu. We highly recommend visiting the pub for ‘take-away’ beer.

The National Trust property of Hinton Ampner is also in the village as is The Hinton Arms pub which has an extensive menu.

The nearest town is Alresford, a traditional English market town.  Alresford has its own website managed by local residents – please visit the site for all the latest news and events. Highlights include the Alresford Millennium Trail, The Watercress Line and great boutique shopping. There are 5 pubs in Alresford offering something for everyone; The Globe, The Swan, The Bell, The Horse and Groom and The Cricketers.

The historic city of Winchester is on the doorstep and offers never ending exploring opportunities including Winchester Cathedral, Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium and The Great Hall featuring King Arthur’s Round Table. The list is endless, we recommend you Visit Winchester for events and special offers so you can plan your Winchester adventure.
